Nai Talim envisioned by Gandhiji, refers to holistic approach for nurturing mind, body and soul. It is based on the thought that education should be centered around productive work and knowledge and work are inseparable. Vocational Education Nai Talim Experiential Learning (VENTEL) focuses on acquiring skills and knowledge through hands-on activities essential for transforming knowledge into functional experience for application in day-to-day life. The college firmly believes and appreciates the need to adopt VENTEL as means of productive work with economic value and its integration with the four methodologies of Science, Mathematics, Social Studies and Language. Thus, the college is now a recognized Vocational Education Nai Talim Experiential Learning (VENTEL) Action plan Institution as on 25 June 2021.

Objectives:

• To institutionalise VENTEL action plan and develop knowledge, skills, attitudes, attributes and values necessary to shape a sustainable future.
• To promote and appreciate the need for Vocational Education as a means of productive work with economic value and its integration with the curriculum.
• To initiate and adopt skill-based hands-on training courses capable of transforming knowledge into practical application for enhancing future employability.
• To develop a zest of self-employment among the youth of today by providing them skill training in various fields.

Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV Collegefor Women, U.T, Chandigarh in association with MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, Govt of India constitutedthe Psychosocial Support Service Cell (PSSC) on 18 May 2021 with an aim to address the challenges and issues related to COVID-19 pandemic. The college has received recognition for its valuable services to COVID patients and their families and forits active participation in “EACH ONE REACH ONE COVID MISSIONand COVID VACCINE AWARENESS DRIVE. The college has been recognized as Beat COVID Campaign Institution in the year 2021.

Objectives:

• To provide psychological support to students on issues related to stress, anxiety, psychosocial aspects so as to reassure that our students remain energetic and in the positive state of mind during the pandemic period.
• To empower the students and faculty with skills on how to react in different situation and be empathetic in the grief-stricken situation. to help distressed people in these pandemic times.
• To providing authentic information and psychosocial support for the COVID-19 affected people and students with creation of different teams and structured groups of student volunteers with specific roles. This includes teams providing authentic information related to availability of hospital beds, oxygen supplies, essentials, food supply, medicine as well as volunteer teams involved in doing ground help for COVID affected families (supply of food, clothes, education, masks, sanitisers etc.).
• To engage in door-to-door campaigning on raising awareness on importance of vaccination, busting the myths surrounding vaccination and inculcating COVID-19 appropriate behaviour among community and society

Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women is conferred with the status of Social Entrepreneurship, Swachhata & Rural Engagement Cell (SES REC) Institution since August 2020 by MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, Govt of India as on 24.09.2020. The college has successfully formed the cell and framed ten working groups coordinated by faculty members and student volunteers. The working groups are focused on Sanitation and Hygiene, Waste Management, Water Management, Energy Management and Greenery. Environment, Entrepreneurship & Community Engagement post COVID-19 with an aim to inculcate, promote and absorb the ideals of mentoring, social responsibility, cleanliness, and resource conservation. The college has been actively engaged in conducting activities related to Swachhata, hygiene and sanitation, waste management practices, rural skilling and entrepreneurship, rural technological advancements to fulfil the need of developing self-reliant and sustainable society.

Objectives :

• To form working groups (consisting of coordinators, mentors and student volunteers) focussed on areas pertaining to sanitation and hygiene, waste management, water management, energy management and greenery. environment, entrepreneurship & community engagement.
• To train the students on key aspects of social entrepreneurship while promoting Swachhta and community engagement related initiatives.
• To regularly conduct activities in the direction of Swachhta, hygiene and sanitation, waste management practices, rural skilling and entrepreneurship, rural technological advancements.
• To observe and celebrate environment, entrepreneurship and community engagement related days in the college so as to inculcate the practice of mentoring, social responsibility, Swachhta and care for environment and resources among the stakeholders.

To accelerate the efforts to achieve universal sanitation coverage and to put focus on safe sanitation, the Prime Minister of India launched the Swachh Bharat Mission on 2nd October, 2014. The Swachh Bharat (Gramin) Mission (SBM-G) aims towards improving the levels of cleanliness in rural areas through Solid and Liquid Waste Management activities and making the rural areas- Open Defecation Free (ODF), clean and sanitized. Further, higher education institutions (HEI) are the springboard to a Swachh & Healthy Bharat. Keeping this in mind, MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, Govt. of India selected Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women as one of the HEI to transform the infrastructural and unhygienic social cultural habitat of its neighbourhood villages through community engagement activities. The college has always been at the forefront in undertaking ventures that can change the lives of the rural sections of the society by making them aware of the quintessential need for hygiene and the college is a recognized MGNCRE Recognized Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) Institution. MGNCRE in collaboration with the college launched the SBM-G for achieving ODF status for its two adopted villages – Bhaderi and Butrella through a pilot level Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) coordinated by Mr. Priyavart Sharma from, MGNCRE, Government of India along with faculty members of the college and student volunteers.

Objectives

• To conduct careful, coordinated and planned surveys of the villages so as to understand the ground reality in relevance to open defecation and overall hygiene and sanitation status.
• To understand and mitigate the issues faced by the villagers related to availability and quality of water supply, functionality and maintenance of the sewerage system and storage facility available in the adopted villages while addressing the problems to the respective village sarpanch and higher -ups.
• To raise awareness among the villagers about the right use of toilet and avoiding open defecation along with the importance of safe disposal of human excreta with relevance to hygiene and sanitation. To make the villagers aware of the ill effects of poor sanitation and open defecation that may lead to serious disease outbreaks with loss of lives and money.
• To evaluate the level of awareness and level of implementation of the hygiene practices in the village houses post-awareness visits and to follow up the actual implementation of the sanitation programme and ODF free status in these two adopted villages
