The clarion call given by our Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 2nd October 2014 to seek citizens’ participation in realising Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of a Clean India has found increasing resonance in the efforts of various stakeholders that has transformed it into a mass movement. Conscious of its social responsibility, Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College has plunged itself full throttle into this initiative in order to contribute towards this noble cause. Committed to the cause of ‘Swachhata’, Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College has undertaken a slew of initiatives inside the campus as well as at the community level including its adopted villages- Badheri, Butrella, Dhanas, Kishangarh, Khajeri-Chanadigarh(UT), Kotlu-(HP), Jitwal Kalan-(PB) and Kanheri Kalan-(HR).The efforts by the college, aimed at accelerating the pace of realisation of this mission, include plantation drives, solar lighting, rain water harvesting, real-time air quality monitoring system,Sewage Treatment Plant, generating awareness about waste segregation, installation of blue and green dustbins within the campus, cleaning of campus and surroundings by NSS volunteers, sensitization programmes on sanitation, hygiene and cleanliness in village Badheri, participation in Swachh Pakhwada- an initiative of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, participation in Institutional Swachhta Ranking and so on. Going beyond the brief and taking the mission a step forward, Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College endeavours to make its campus not just a clean but also a green and hygienic one which proves to be a model for others to emulate.

In sync with the objectives of the Swacch Bharat Mission, the Swacchta objectives of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women include:

To promote modern and scientific waste management like segregation of wet and dry waste and use of separate dustbins for the two i.e. green bins for wet waste and blue bins for dry waste.

To generate awareness among various stakeholders like staff, students, parents and community regarding the importance of cleanliness and promote healthy practices among them.

To effect behavioural change regarding healthy sanitation practices among the residents of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College adopted village Badheri.

To generate awareness about sanitation and its linkage with public health.
